Is there no one who can absolutely say there is one God, or what gods are like?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I am studying philosophy and specifically about the various gods that govern the world – and that we can actually be a god. The curriculum says that no one can absolutely say there is one God, or what gods are like. I don’t believe this but I’m not sure how to back up my claim. – O.G.

A: Man has rejected the revelation of the Bible concerning the true and living God and has substituted gods of his own making. Hundreds of philosophies and scores of religions have been invented to circumvent the Word of God. Many philosophers and psychologists also try to make it appear that there is some other way to God, but Jesus is the only way.

The Bible gives us a full revelation of what God is like. If people do not believe that we have a revelation that is sufficient to give us an answer, they may well go from one place to another for mere speculation. But the one true God speaks to people through the Bible – God’s truth – and our minds can be completely satisfied about what God declares about Himself.

God is a Spirit; He is not limited to spheres – there is no limit to His wisdom; no limit to His power or His love. God is not body-bound. He is eternal, with no beginning and no ending. The Bible teaches that there was never a time when God was not.

The Scripture declares God to be light, in whom there is no darkness at all. He is righteous and He is holy. It is difficult for mankind to imagine all of this, but Christians believe God by faith. This is the gift of God to all who believe. “For he who comes to God must believe that He is” (Hebrews 11:6, NKJV).
